"The Pharmacist" tells the story of a pharmacist and the many people who come to her to deal with the physical and emotional pain that ails them. Written by Jane Russell, who also who plays the nine remarkable characters in this 45-minute, comic tour-de-force. "The Pharmacist" highlights society’s “quick fix” mentality and the idea of finding happiness in a bottle…

Customers range from hypochondriacs and addicts to more pragmatic customers and alternate ‘self-healers’.  These visits are punctuated by a call from the ubiquitous drug company representative and flashbacks to her university pharmacy professor.

The Tools of the Trade
The Tools of the Trade

'The Pharmacict' is both sad and comic and widely appealing. After a sell out season at home and abroad at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007, and Melbourne Fringe Festival, 'The Pharmacist' is the perfect prescription to cure Los Angeles in its U.S. Premiere!

“..one of those mythical hidden gems on the fringe...” 4 out of 5 stars Three Weeks Edinburgh

“…Russell is an engaging presence..” The Scotsman

“The strength of this play comes from its comedic depictions of our consumption of pills, and its avoidance of po-faced commentary on the pharmaceuticals trade.”  Culture Wars

Since graduating from The National Theatre Drama School in 2006, Jane has appeared on stage in many plays, most notably as Elizabeth Bennett in ‘Pride and Prejudice’, as The Shrew in ‘The Taming of The Shrew’ and in her own one woman show ‘The Pharmacist’.

Jane has appeared on screen in films ‘Above the Starry Spheres’, ‘Help Wanted’ and ‘The Visitor’ and in Medibank Private, Nova FM and Connect Financial TVC’s. Jane can currently be heard as the voice of ‘Nikki’ in the animated TV series ‘Pixel Pinkie’ on Channel 9 at 11.30 AM Saturday mornings.  Jane will soon be seen on ‘Neighbours’ in March 2010.
